Additional Product Features as provided by the manufacturer:
Melgisorb can be used for a wide range of moderately to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds such as pressure sores, venous and arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, donor sites and post-operative wounds.
NOTE: Melgisorb is not indicated for dry wounds, third degree burns or surgical implantations.
NOTE: Infected wounds should be evaluated on a regular basis and treated appropriately.
How Melgisorb Works:
Melgisorb absorbs large amounts of exudate, 18 times its own weight. When absorbing, the alginate fibres form a soft moist gel, giving a moist environment conducive to wound healing. The gel also blocks lateral wicking of exudate thereby reducing maceration. The soft moist gel does not adhere to the wound site, thereby reducing trauma and pain during wear and dressing change. The gel can easily be removed by irrigating with normal saline.
Benefits of Melgisorb:
- Does not adhere to moist wound site
- Minimises trauma and pain
- Maintains a moist environment
- Reduces the risk of maceration
- Highly absorbent
